Pre-K Chinese Literacy
This class is designed for children ages 4–6 who are not yet ready to use the Jinan Edition textbooks in our regular Chinese classes. The goal is to spark children’s interest in recognizing Chinese characters and to help them connect spoken words with written characters. Writing is not taught in this class; instead, students will learn to associate sounds with characters and begin to build a foundation for reading.
For this school year, the class will use the Disney I Can Read picture book series (6 volumes). Through engaging stories and illustrations, children will naturally recognize and remember characters while enjoying the fun of storytelling.
The class is taught by Leyi Jing, an 11th-grade student at Westwood High School. Leyi served as a Teaching Assistant in the Pre-K Chinese Literacy class at Great Wall for a full academic year. She is patient, caring, and experienced in working with young children. Students enjoy learning with her and are encouraged by her enthusiasm for both teaching and Chinese language.
